Lucy Ellinson is an actor and theatre maker from North Wales, specialising in devised and experimental performance and international new writing. She teaches, mentors and works within community projects and campaigns. She develops her own performance work in the UK and recently in Berlin.
Lucy is a collaborative artist, enjoying long established relationships with makers including Yael Shavit, Wendy Hubbard, Chris Thorpe, Clare Duffy, Metis Arts, Suite42, Dens & Signals, Unlimited Theatre, Third Angel and Slung Low. In recent years she has worked as an associate artist with London’s Gate Theatre, experimental performance collective Forest Fringe, Third Angel (Theatre, Film & Live Art) and The Deaf and hearing Ensemble (a collective of Deaf and hearing actors making formally experimental performance).
As an actor, recent theatre credits include playing ‘Connie’ in Run Sister Run (Paines Plough/Sheffield Theatre/Soho), ‘Macbeth’ in Macbeth and ‘Ariel/Viv’ in an adaptation of Derek Jarman’s film Jubilee (both Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester), ‘Patient Griselda’ in Topgirls (National Theatre), ‘Emmanuelle Giri’ in The Resistable Rise Of Arturo Ui (Donmar Warehouse); ‘Puck’ in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Royal Shakespeare Company), ‘Queenie’ in Money: The Game Show (Bush Theatre), Oh The Humanity! And Other Good Intentions (Northern Stage/Soho). And for The Gate Theatre: ‘The Pilot’ in Grounded, with roles in The Christians, Dear Elizabeth, Trojan Women and Greyscale’s Tenet.
Lucy’s collaboration with Lydia Ziemke and suite42 began (and continues) with play and development of Dea Loher’s Land without Words and War Zone, research for About Francois (El Hakawati) and The Sun Sets Eight Times A Day.
Lucy’s own work has been commissioned and supported by Battersea Arts Centre (BAC), Forest Fringe, The Arches (Glasgow), Cambridge Junction Theatre, Pulse Festival, The Roundhouse, Camden, Pilot night (RSC), National Theatre of Wales and English Theatre Berlin. The work is political and participatory performance, with a focus on community, austerity and protest. Projects include #Torycore (with Steve Lawson and Chris Thorpe) Kaidan, One Minute Manifesto and When I Was Old When I Get Young.
Lucy is a mentor and selector for the UK’s National Student Drama Festival and an Education Associate Practitioner for The Royal Shakespeare Company’s Education Department and is a visiting lecturer within Higher Education.
